I am by no means an adherent to their politics, and I'll happily admit that most of what they talk about goes right over my head, but I enjoy the tone of their conversation, and I specifically admire the way they have NOT allowed their position on western capitalism to poison their opposition to imperialism from non-western sources. They have managed to maintain an unblinking criticism of Russia's war in Ukraine and Russia's apologists in the west.
Their episode released on October 7th - available here and here - provides a critique of Putin's 30th September speech celebrating his "annexation" of parts of Ukraine, before providing a review of Ken Burns' new PBS documentary “The U.S. and the Holocaust”. I welcome their ability to detect the fascism that is present in both subjects.
There are so many commentators, even on the relatively center left, who have been spouting Putin's talking points, even while claiming to be critical of his actions. As disappointing as Russell Brand's Ukraine bashing is, it's hardly surprising, but I am saddened to find myself skipping over content from sources that I have previously trusted, sometimes unsubscribing from them altogether. It is refreshing to see a source that some would consider "far-left" that can maintain support for Ukraine in its struggle against its former imperial masters and current aggressors.
